Download WordPress for XAMPP

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) used for creating websites. XAMPP, on the other hand, is a free and open-source tool that allows developers to run a local server environment on their computer. In this article, we will guide you on how to download WordPress for XAMPP.

Requirements

Before we proceed with the download process, make sure that you have the following requirements:

  • XAMPP installed on your computer
  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled on your router or modem
  • A working internet connection

Downloading WordPress

  1. Visit the official website of WordPress at https://wordpress.org/download/
  2. Click on the "Download WordPress" button to start the download process.
  3. Once the download is complete, extract the downloaded file to your desired location.
  4. Rename the extracted folder to a name that suits your project.
  5. Open the renamed folder and find the "wp-config-sample.php" file.
  6. Rename "wp-config-sample.php" to "wp-config.php".

Configuring WordPress

Now that we have downloaded and renamed the extracted WordPress folder, let's configure it to work with XAMPP.

  1. Open the "wp-config.php" file in a text editor of your choice.
  2. Find the following lines of code:

    define( 'DB_NAME', 'database_name_here' ); define( 'DB_USER', 'username_here' ); define( 'DB_PASSWORD', 'password_here' );

  3. Replace the "databasenamehere", "usernamehere", and "passwordhere" with the following information:

    define( 'DB_NAME', 'database_name' ); define( 'DB_USER', 'root' ); define( 'DB_PASSWORD', '' );

    Note: If your XAMPP installation has a password for the root user, then replace the empty quotes in "DB_PASSWORD" with the password.

  4. Save and close the "wp-config.php" file.

Moving WordPress to XAMPP

  1. Open the XAMPP installation directory.
  2. Locate the "htdocs" folder and open it.
  3. Copy the renamed WordPress folder and paste it inside the "htdocs" folder.
  4. Open your web browser and go to "http://localhost/your-wordpress-folder-name".
  5. Follow the installation process to complete setting up WordPress.

Congratulations! You have successfully downloaded and installed WordPress for XAMPP. You can now start building your website locally before publishing it online.
